Things To Consider Before Buying From An Interior Moldings Fort Myers Store

By Brenda Warner

Who does not want a beautiful home if one can afford one. Most will hire an interior designer and go with basic decoration ideas while others will go for a more avant garde approach and go for interior styling by way of interior moldings use. Thus if you are in Fort Myers, Florida right now and thinking of using trims and moldings which can be bought from an interior moldings Fort Myers store, then do read on for some basic information.

Prior to your visit and possible purchase of things at the shop, you should get to know a little bit about moldings and trims. Remember that they can come in many shapes and sizes and also designs from simple to complex. This article will attempt to familiarize you with the many aspects of this sort of interior design material.

Moldings and trims are usually divided by categories on how they will appear on the wall or walls as the case may be, even if some pieces serve two purposes for example like a baseboard which may also serve as a door casing. Sometimes different kinds of trims will be combined to create a built up molding like a crown.

What is known as a baseboard is something that will cover the intersection between the floor and the wall. It protects the bottom of the wall from impact damage that might be caused by a vacuum cleaner, and prevents seepage of water if one is fond of using a wet mop. Most homes will have this, and it is a rarity to find a home that does not.

Doors and window casings is molding that is used to form a frame around the door and window openings. This is done so as to hide the gap seen between the adjacent wall and the jamb. It serves mostly an aesthetic purpose but can in itself be useful in terms of energy savings for cooling or heating as the case may be as it becomes a sort of draft eliminator.

These trims can also be placed up high near the ceiling area between the wall and ceiling junctions. Oftentimes this is called a crown or cornice molding, which is installed in a way so as it juts out at an angle. At times this moulding is made up of several layers of flat trim which give it a thicker appearance.

A chair rail is also another interesting piece of molding you can use. It is basically installed about three feet from the floor and protects the wall from chair dings caused by the backs of chairs. Some use it as a visual break on the wall or even as a divider between two color schemes of paint or wallpaper. This aesthetic trick is a favorite used by a lot of decorators.

This article has thus discussed a few kinds of molding but there are of course very much more. Not discussed in this article are picture molding, base shoes and cap molding. This of course can be the topic of the next article that you should also read to enrich your knowledge on design and decoration.
