Generally, cotton and wool carpets are easily cleaned and have greater amount of durability.

Vacuum the carpet regularly, ideally once in a week. This can lift the debris and the dirt, thus, making it look new even for a long time. Vacuuming will also prevent the fibers of wool to pack down. Rugs should also be kept out from sunlight. Sunlight may cause it to be damaged and colors may fade. Test it if it is colorfast. You may put a small of water to small part at the corner and try tapping a white cloth into it.

Next, the furniture positioned at the top of the carpets must be moved in every 6 months to avoid fibers on being damaged. For the method of quick cleaning, a rug should be cleaned with straw bristled broom. Avoid on rubbing the broom so that no damages are made. Back and front parts should be vacuumed as well for removing excess abrasives, hairs, and dirt.

Shaking the rug can also be done in order to remove the dust particles. But if the material is big, you may hang it into the clothesline, beat it by the use of hands or other things. For liquid spill outs, avoid some stains by immediately removing it by cold water, blot it up unto the stain.

And lastly or the third part is the deep cleaning. A rug should be vacuumed in both sides. You can also bring it out or bring it to wide areas having flat surfaces. Do the vacuuming until all dirt and debris are lifted. Then after, shake it to remove some additional debris and dirt. Spray the sides by using cold water.

Mix cold water together with liquid detergent inside a bucket. The ideal measurement of this is a one gallon water and a three tablespoon detergent. Test your solution by applying a small amount with brush or sponge and wait for about 10 minutes to know the result.

If that portion is cleaned, do the process to the other portions and rinse both sides of the rug with water after. Make sure that the suds are washed off properly. Over wetting of these may result to the growth of molds. Allow the carpet to dry first outside before placing it back inside.
