Tips On Knowing Antique Furniture Conroe

By Susan Graham

Antique items have become very famous. With the state of the real estate market, marketers believe placing such furniture in homes ensure there is significant increase in their assumed value. Furthermore, spending money on purchase of such furniture would be a good investment. The furniture never really loses value but instead appreciates. In considering antique furniture Conroe residents should know some useful facts about them.

It is important to be able to identify antique furniture. These are fittings that are more than 100 years in age. There are two types, that is real antique and antique design. The former is a great treasure and are very many years old. It is not very difficult knowing real antique pieces. You should first be conversant with the fact that wood shrinks as it ages. Such fittings have irregular measurements and therefore if the finishing is new and fantastic, it might not be genuine.

The various items will not be of similar value. Value is dependent on factors like application, age, quality and the design. For you to know exact value, some skills and experience are needed. The internet is useful when researching on what to look out for. You should be able to tell genuine ones from those that are fake. Generally, value is based on their condition, background and how rare they are.

It is not advisable to take furniture with scratches on their finish and attempt to refinish or strip it. It is such scratches that will give them authenticity. The people selling these fittings are looking to make profit. Most sellers will value price more than what the piece is really worth. For example, a seller might lie to you that the piece was used by a very famous person as way of making them sell at higher prices.

Dimensions are very important consideration. If the item in question is authentic, it should not have uniform dimension due to the simple fact that wood shrinks as it ages. A buyer will need to take time checking out the pieces in broad daylight so that they can see all angles well. Solidity is also tested to ensure that even though the item is antique, it is still able to be used. If it cannot be used, it may end up being useless.

Buyers need to look for proof of antiquity. While age is one of the main factors that give these items their value, the item you are buying should have passed the age of 100. This can be confirmed by looking for any signs that it has depreciated. The piece should have dust at its corners that are hard to get to when normal dusting is done. If this is not so, the piece may be fake.

The surface color needs to be considered as well. Surface finish is a significant detail. Quality items need to show flat coloring other than some shades that may have naturally been caused by age. Their back side may be different from the surface but there should be unvaried shades.

If you are hesitant, it helps to get second opinion. Actually, you might consider hiring an expert to help in confirmation. It is better than getting the wrong items.
