Peel And Stick Vinyl Tiles Provide An Affordable Way To Refresh A Tired Floor

By Rachael Gutierrez

Peel and stick vinyl tiles supply a fast, less expensive way to rejuvenate heavily used spaces. The twelve inch squares transform the look of an area in less than a day. With minimal training, inexperienced people can put in this low cost flooring. Numerous hues, styles and surfaces are available. Easy cleaning and the ability to withstand traffic are added reasons to upgrade floors this way.

Many home owners need to replace their flooring. Pulling up old coverings and replacing them with linoleum or wood can cost several hundred dollars. The installation can also be time consuming and require professional assistance. Tile squares offer many advantages. Twenty pieces cover a 20 foot square area. Preparation is minimal. Backings are self adhesive so there are no glues to be mixed.

Tiling comes in a large array of colors. Modern patterns are available which will suit any decor. A number of textures can also be found. In just one afternoon a tired floor is transformed with a whole new look. Once installed, keeping the floor looking fresh requires only a broom and a mop. If a piece should become unusable, it can be replaced quickly and easily.

Squares come in bundles or as individual pieces. The prices frequently undercut those of similar linoleum or wood products. It is not necessary to buy more product than required to do the job. Fixing a problem does not turn into a big expense. Installation needs little more than a level, dirt free space.

Flooring of this type works best on spaces that are level. Once the old flooring has been removed, make sure the surface is completely free of debris and dust. Begin installation by removing any molding around the edge of the floor. Find the center of the room and lay the pieces from the center out to the walls. Do one quadrant at a time.

Ensure a tight fit along the walls by cutting individual pieces as necessary. This same method should be used for placement around the heating and cooling vents. Finish the installation by placing an appropriate base board above the tiles.

Make sure that the squares have been pressed down adequately by going over the entire area with a heavy weight. The floor must not be cleaned for at least a work week. Once five days have passed the pieces will have bonded with their foundation. Keeping the tile clean will increase its longevity.

The cost of high priced linoleum or wood floor coverings can be prohibitive. Installation of these products also takes time. Many types of flooring require a lot of care to keep them clean. Self adhesive squares provide an inexpensive, easily put down way to give a room a face lift. Tile can be found to match any style or taste. Peel and stick vinyl tiles give home owners a wide variety of well priced options for redecorating their houses.
