Using An Area Rug Set In A Home

By Tiffany Gill

Rugs are an attractive accessory to use in a home and they can bring a touch of color and style to a room. In many cases they are sold separately, but this is not always the case. An area rug set includes a few rugs of different sizes and styles, and this can help to bring a coordinated look to a property.

A common set has three styles in different sizes and shapes. This typically includes a larger square or rectangular rug designed for use in spaces such as dining rooms, living rooms and bedrooms. In some cases the larger rug is circular or oval in shape. A second rug is shaped in a runner style, which is longer and thinner and more commonly used in hallways. The third style is a smaller mat that can be used in various locations.

Rug sets with two pieces typically comprise a smaller mat and a longer runner rug. These are ideal for the entrance to a home where they can protect the floor from dirt on the shoes of those coming in. However, they are also suitable for interior rooms where they can be placed at a doorway.

The benefit of choosing a rug set rather than individual pieces is that they produce a coordinated look. The sets can come with all three pieces in a single color or with matching patterns. This makes it simple to find one that matches and enhances an interior design.

There are a few different fabrics that can be used to produce the rugs in a set. Natural materials that are typically used include wool, silk and cotton. Rugs are also produced in man-made material, with some of the common options including nylon, polypropylene and acrylic.

While rug sets are more commonly use for indoor locations they can also be placed outdoors. Two piece sets made of hard wearing natural materials such as jute and sisal can be used on patios and porches. This can enhance the look of these areas for a more stylish outside appearance.

Safety is an issue with rugs, especially if they are place on a hard surface floor. In this case they may cause a slip and it is sensible to try and prevent this. When laying the pieces in a set use rug pads or rug tape, which are designed to hold them securely in place. Rug pads in particular can be a good choice as they provide a supportive underlay that reduce wear and extend this life of a rug.

Caring for the rugs in a set is relatively simple. They should be regularly shaken or vacuumed to clear them of household dirt and grime. Any wet spills should be blotted immediately to clean them. If possible keep rugs in positions that are out of direct sunlight that can fade the colors.

An area rug set can be found for sale at a number of retailers. This includes carpet and flooring retailers, big-box chains and home improvement stores. Most of these will have a variety of shapes and styles available to give customers a decent selection to choose from.
