Technology Advancement Through Organic Led Lighting

They are widely known to be a new technology that produces efficient, thin and bright displays. This article explains lightly on the differences between active and passive matrix technology and their applications. The terms inert matrix diode and active matrix relate to diode display driving method. In case of inert matrix, it is limited in resolution and size though it is cheaper and easy to make when compared to the active Matrix. An active matrix relies on storage capacitors to maintain the row pixels thus enable large resolution and large size displays and an active matrix array. These organic led lighting is very complicated to make though they have no size, resolution restrictions and are very efficient.

How these diodes work. Cathode known to inject electrons, anode removes electrons and an e missive layer is the basic structure composition of emitting diodes. Latest diodes devices can use many layers so as to increase their efficiency but all in all the basic function does not change. Light emitting diodes materials were discovered way back in nineteen sixties but the researchers started working on these technologies in the past twenty years.

How these panel is made. To make a diode it involves several sequential steps. That is, take a substrate, clean it, make the back plane by driving circuitry and the switching, pattern the organic layers and depositing and eventually encapsulate the entire thing to prevent oxygen, moisture and dust damage.

The first devices using this technology in the market used inert matrix and were sub displays on cell phones, and the radio decks for automobiles. These displays were usually small and with one or two colors. In 2007 and 2008 is when the Active matrix panels started emerging paving way for larger mobile video player displays, mobile phones and not forgetting digital cameras.

Materials Used. Many materials are available for making these devices. The basic division basically is between the small molecule and large molecule known as passive diode. They are mostly used materials for commercial diodes today as they are seen to be more efficient than the passive organic light emitting diode. Materials that emit light are classified into phosphorescent or fluorescent.

These companies have embarked on mass production of flexible panels. It is one of the world most advanced organic diode Fab probably. This is a roll to roll flexible technology with a capacity to produce million color tunable and flexible and efficient panels each and every month.

There are several challenges faced by these technology based on industries which are but not limited to the following, Soluble based production processes, Soluble organic led performance, Flexible diode encapsulation, Material life time. That is especially of the blue material. Scaling of the evaporation processes is also a challenge and the system capacity for expansion.

It is concentrating mostly on small displays of about five to ten inches mostly for tablets and phones. On the other hand life is good production of diode is only on large sizes panels, that is fifty to seventy inches mostly for applications for Televisions.

Both of these companies have also produced flexible panels that are used in wearable devices and mobile phones. The volume of production is still low but these companies in the near future are expected to expand and increase production capacity. This way both will come up with new products and thus forming factors to the market.
