Secrets Of Maintaining Oriental Rugs

By Robert Bell

The Asian countries are known for making the best quality carpets. These mats are made of cotton, silk, and wool; and in most cases, they are hand-made. To get the best quality of the oriental rugs, one should ensure that they use quality material. These rugs are beautiful and can be placed in the house, office, restaurant or even schools. The challenge, however, is the way they can be managed. Below are tips on how to maintain a mat so as to ensure that it serves you for a long time.

Do not let the carpet lie in one position; you need to take time to rotate it as much as possible. Some people take up to a year before they change the position, and this leads to it getting torn on the side that experiences a lot of human traffic. To ensure that the tear is evenly distributed, rotate the carpet after every two months.

Do not place it in a position that has direct sunlight as it will fade dramatically. Sunlight leads to premature fading of the floor covering and thus should be kept away. If you have to use the rag in a place where there is the sunshine often, you can prevent the adding of it by blocking the sun rays from reaching the floor covering directly. This can be achieved by building a shade.

The rugs are designed in such a way that fringes are at the end of the mat. The fringes can easily tangle and twist, especially with the movement of numerous people on it. It is easy to untangle the fringes without destroying the fibers; all you have to do is flip the rug over and allow the edge to straighten more naturally.

If you have this type of carpet in your house, it is advisable that you find a quality vacuum cleaner so that it can help you with the cleaning services. Clean it often as it helps the rug from being packed down with excessive dust. Make sure that when you use the vacuum cleaner on the rug that the beater bar is off, as this will reduce the chances of having runs and tears on the fibers because they are quite delicate.

Once a spill takes place on the carpet, you need to clean the spot immediately. To begin with, you should use a dry cloth to soak off excess liquid. However, note that you should not use bleach, soap or any other cleaning products as it might damage the fabric.

It is best that you start off by having a padding placed before you can put the oriental carpet on top. By doing so, the carpet will be stable and will not move around when people are walking on it. At the same time, it will maintain the shape and reduce the possibility of wrinkling. The use of the padding will make it safer to walk on the rug and at the same time, it will maintain the value.

Moisture building up on the rag could result to mold formation, and this could lead to health risk. It is recommended that you air the carpet after a short while to ensure that any moisture content is dried out. On the same note, if the floor covering gets wet, ensure that you dry it immediately.
