Tables are considered to be furniture with smooth flat and horizontal surface generally on their upper surface. The furniture has a long history and was used for different purposes. Supporting items or objects is one major purpose of such furniture. Other purposes include storage, decoration among other uses. The process of making hand made tables is not complicated.

There are a number of table types available today. Some of these types include dining, coffee, and bedside table. All of the above types have basically one function and that is supporting objects when they are in use. Some furniture is also used to store documents or cutlery by homeowners.

One of the most common types of furniture is dining room table basically used by people when they are seated to eat meals. This is common because almost every home has this kind of furniture. The most appealing and welcome dining furniture is one made from wood. Homeowners deciding to buy this furniture need to first consider their dining hall or room area.

Knowing the dimensions of your dining hall or space will help one choose the most appropriate furniture for that available space. Coffee table is another type that is quite familiar and usually it is short furniture used mostly in living rooms. This table is mostly used to display some items or even to serve refreshments.

Constructing a complete table is quite challenging for beginners but with the right tools in place they can do it. Some tools worth buying before starting the process include table saw, radial arm saw, drill, pocket-hole jig, rechargeable screwdriver, chisel and hand-held belt sander. This article briefly outlines some steps to apply when constructing a table.

Using your pencil, draw any design sketch you think of. If you do not have any specific design on mind, you can take a moment and brainstorm for ideas. Finally if you get a design draw it on your paper without catering in, the dimensions. Dimensions will come later after the sketch is complete. Once the sketch is successfully drawn, start figuring out the dimensions.

The type of table design one has will determine the dimensions. Dining and also beside table will with no doubt have varying dimensions. After the dimensions are established they can be used to evaluate the number of wood that will be enough for the furniture. Wood amount should not be fixed to avoid running short of wood when constructing.

It is not good to be exact on the number of wood needed. It is advisable to add little extra wood to cater for any shortcomings. Once you are certain on the amount of wood required, the next stage is purchasing your wood. For those people who are not so familiar with carpentry, it is wise to use soft wood such as pine because the tree is known to be easy to work with. Next step is constructing your table top. Cut your wood, smear it with glue and clamp it, then leave it to dry through the night. Lastly create the legs and fix them to the under surface.
